In the many different kinds of winches ever invented, one of the most innovative ones, in m opinion are portable winches. These are winches that you can carry practically anywhere. They can work anywhere and anytime. They don’t need electricity – their power source are in their own bodies. And perhaps the most portable of these are winches you can carry in bags.
A winch in a bag is perhaps the true mark of portable convenience. Not only can you carry your winch anywhere, you can actually carry it easily. Sadly, in my venture to search for the best winch in a bag, only a few stood out to me. And these few are not even actual winches.
What I did find, though, are everything else you need for a successful winching operation. Even without the actual winch, these products are great in terms of how complete they are in terms of winching needs.

The first item on the list is from Smittybilt. This brand is known for providing high quality off-road products. Their winches and winching accessories in particular are known to be great products.
This item here is undeniably very affordable, all things considered. With the bag, you’ll get a recovery strap, a choker chain with hooks, a snatch block, a tree trunk protector, a couple of D-rings and a pair of gloves.
The recovery strap is 30 feet long and 3 inches wide. It can handle loads of up to 30,000 lbs. It is of a very good quality, extremely tough and certainly helpful in big winching projects.
The tree trunk protector is 4 inches wide and 8 feet long. It has a breaking strength of 40,000 lbs. With these accessories, you don’t have to worry about them breaking.
The snatch block is built or loads up to 17,600 lbs. The D-rings are 3/4 inches in diameter, more than enough to let have you winch line get through. The choler chain is 5 feet long and 5/16 inches wide.
All in all, this 600-denier bag contains all the essentials of winching. It comes with a strap so carrying it should not be a problem at all. If you want a touch of extra convenience and additional strength in your next winching operation, it is all within this bag.

This next item is better than the previous one because this unit actually comes with a winch. Although the winch itself can’t be put IN the bag, it is still portable and easy to carry ALONG with the bag.
This is from a brand called Portable Winch, which I believe is a subsidiary of Honda. The winch itself has a load capacity of 2,200 lbs. It has a 2.1 horsepower, Honda GHX-50 engine.
It comes with a bag that will contain your essential winching accessories. It comes with an anchor sling and a polyester synthetic rope that is double braided and is 164 feet long. Hooks, an 8 foot long polyester sling, a snatch block, carabiners, grab hook with a latch, a skidding cone and a choker chain – all of these are also part of the package.
The snatch block is a 4 inch swing side. The two oval locking carabiners are made of steel and are capable of handling loads up to 5500 lbs. The hook with a latch is 5/16 inch in diameter and the skidding cone is 20 inches. And finally, the choker chain is 7 feet long and 1/4 inch wide.
In short, aside from having a fairly powerful winch, this product comes with a lot of helpful accessories for your next winching trip. The product is heavily advertised to a winch forestry kit, but I think that it is a bigger potential than that.
As far as portable winches with a complete accessories kit in a bag go, this one is a great option for a great price.

It comes with its own winch, a snatch block, three D-shackles, a couple of straps, a power cord, a pair of gloves and a hand held remote controller. All of those items are packed conveniently in a tool-box looking thing. Yes, that’s right, that is everything – the winch and all the accessories – within a box that you can easily carry.

Verdict On The Best Winch In A Bag Review
Looking for a satisfactory winch in a bag was hard work, because there technically isn’t one. What I did find, though, are products that allows for the same, or almost the same, level of portability such a winch would have had.
The products I discussed here disappointed me at first. But upon deeper consideration, I seriously think that they have great value unknown in a lot of winch products. If you have a need for portable tools for your next winching operation, you can easily get them with any of these products.
