Endurance Marine Winch Review

Endurance Marine Winch review

When you are looking to buy a winch for your boat, there are generally two types of winch out there. One is a manual hand-cranked winch and the other is an electric winch. Since electric winch is more expensive than its counterpart, it might tempt some of you to go for the less expensive option. It’s not always the case though.

There are several reasons to pick electric winch over manual winch that includes boat size, speed, and safety. And an electric winch doesn’t demand any physical effort from the user.

In this review, I’ll be writing about some of the highly quality endurance marine winches.

Endurance Marine Winch Review

1. Endurance Marine 12 Volt 2,000 lb Winch

Key features:

  • 2,000 lbs line pull
  • 153:1 Gear Ratio
  • 1.5 HP Motor
  • 35 ft. Steel Rope

This winch comes with 2000 lbs of pulling power. It is also capable of 500 lbs of vertical lift so it can do some hoisting as well. But keep in mind that it is not designed as an industrial hoist. This winch is powered by 1.5 hp permanent magnet intended for general use.

The line speed is quite fast too, as it can pull 2000 with the speed of 6.5 fpm(feet per minute) and only 110 amp motor current. So you can see that it requires a low electric current draw. The cable and hook that comes with it are made of stainless steel. The cable itself is 35 feet long.

The 153:1 Dual planetary gear train has an automatic load holding brake. It also features a free spool clutch that disengages the gearbox for pulling out cable manually.

Pros

  • Fast line speed
  • Low electric current draw
  • Automatic load holding brake
  • Power in and power out

Cons

  • Noisy gearbox

2. Endurance Marine 12 Volt DC 800 lb Winch

Key features:

  • 800 lbs Line Pull
  • 121:1 Gear Ratio
  • 1.5 HP Motor
  • 35 ft. Steel Rope

This small and compact winch has a pulling power of 800 lbs of load capacity. The power train is provided by a 1.5 horsepower DC 12 Volt motor. It has a dual carriage six planetary gear system with a 121:1 gear ratio. Although the gear themselves make a significant noise while operating but it’s normal and nothing to worry about.

The winch doesn’t come with a cable, so you have to buy it yourself and it can handle any length of rope. Line speed is quite decent with anywhere between 8-31 fpm depending on the load.

This winch features a waterproof deck mounted switch for safe and hands free operation. The motor unit is not designed for continuous use, so it’s best to operate it intermittently. Let the windlass cool down before using it again.
The package includes 80 amp breaker, solenoid, and deck switch along with the winch.

Pros

  • very durable despite its small size
  • Has waterproof deck mounted foot switch
  • Can handle any length of rope

Cons

  • Battery and cable aren’t provided in the package.
  • The solenoid is pretty susceptible to defects

Verdict

Each of these winches are manufactured with different users in mind. Despite some minor shortcomings, the capstan winch Model# WCH800 is perfect for users who are looking for a modest amount of load capacity. It has lots of features to make it a great buy.

Endurance Marine EMD2000, on the other hand, is suited for users who demand more pulling power from their winch. it also comes with a freewheel clutch and 500 lbs of vertical lift, which are great perks to have.
